Title

Photograph of the Toots Paka Hawaiian Troupe

Description

This photo of the Toots Paka Hawaiian Troupe shows the band of the famous July and "Toots" Paka, who toured all over the U.S. pretending to be Hawaiian. Found in the Victor Hawaiian Catalog, this photo displays band members placed in front of a seemingly "tropical" background of palm trees and rocks, clearly trying to appear as authentically "local" to Hawaii. Notice the musician on the far right plays the six string guitar on his lap, which was a distinct style of playing guitar developed by Hawaiian musicians.
