"Foreign Records" Catalog Listing
Catalog listingThis excerpt from a 1929 Victor Record Catalog defines "foreign records" as non-English records and mentions that they are usually separately cataloged in Victor's "Special Booklets." This is in part an attempt to make the English language seem natural and normal but also demonstrates how many non-English languages and thus immigrants were recorded and sold by Victor Records. By 1929, close to 40 non-English languages were featured and advertized by Victor Records alone.
